According to reports, Colombian winger Juan Pablo Pino was arrested by the Saudi moral police when fellow shoppers in a Riyadh mall complained about the exposed tattoos on his arms, which include the face of Jesus and other religious symbols.......

  Puckered!

Yesterday I came about as close to crashing as I ever have on a bike. I was returning from a trip up to Eklutna Lake, trying to beat the rain home. Because of construction on the Glenn they constricted all traffic to one lane. There is plenty of warning and pylons to accomplish the merge. So there I was in a train of cars and trucks all traveling 65 mph in one lane, minding my business, mind probably drifting a bit, when all of a sudden traffic came to a stop.

  I generally pride myself in watching ahead and anticipating traffic situations so I don't get surprised, however, the SUV in front of me was very dirty and I couldn't see through it's windows to the brake lights ahead of him. That, coupled with the fact we were just cresting a small hill and could not see over it for any distance, caused the sudden stop to catch me off guard. No excuses, I effed up.

 The SUV in front of me went from 65 to 0 very quickly causing me to apply both brakes for all I was worth. In a panic stop from that speed, it's not unusual for a guy to skid the tires, which can be disastrous. When I felt the rear tire skid I let back off the rear brake and reapplied it. Again I felt the back tire skidding and slightly begin to drift to my left. I let off again before the tire drifted out enough to high side me. By this time it was obvious that I could not stop before rear ending the dude in front. I made a split second decision to run through the cones into the lane to mu right. Still breaking, I whipped it between the pylons and finally came to a stop in the cordoned off lane, a few feet in front of the SUV I had been following.

 I sat there a few seconds trying to catch my breathe and take inventory on myself and my bike. Talk about a puckered up rear end! 

  Traffic started moving again and I nosed it back into the proper lane precisely where I had left it, behind that SUV. Further up, the highway opened back up to two and then three lanes for an incident free ride on home. It never did rain, just threatened to. 

That close call reminds me why I generally always wear a helmet, it's a matter of when, not if you'll eventually wreck. Later.

I missed the Anchorage Motorcycle Show this year, first time in several. I was too busy closing a deal on a 2008 FXD Super Glide. It took a couple hours at the bank, but I finally rode it home. Talk about a sweeeet ride!

I had found the bike on Craigslist and it was precisely what I was looking for. He had put on pipes and aftermarket lights, plus he upgraded the handlebars, making this sweet Glide too much to pass on. And the bike is barely broke in with 1650 miles on the odometer.

So my first ride of the season was driving home my second Harley, what a great way to kick things off!

 The price of oil is back up over $100 per barrel, and gasoline prices have been rising sharply. The unrest in the Middle East seems to be getting the blame, but what I want to know is why the experts were calling for 4-5 dollar a gallon gas long before the Egyptian meltdown and while supplies were strong? This is a clear case of price manipulation and not supply and demand. The bad news is that gas prices will kill any recovery the nation has seen and in fact decimate our economy for another two years. The good news is it will almost assure that Obama won't get a second term. People vote their wallets, at least people with brains.

 I'm disgusted by his actions as it taints all of us gun owners in liberal's minds. Then there's the media.

  Isn't it interesting how the media has repeatedly said over and over how right wing or tea party politics may be to blame

  The guy couldn't have been more liberal. But more than anything, he is a kook. They are also using this story to get the Congress to consider revamping the nation's gun laws.Or at least to start the conversation. Boy, we took back the House in the nick of time!

To Burn or Not to Burn the Quran?

I've been reading about the preacher in Florida who wants to burn Qurans on the anniversary of 9/11. In this country he has the right to do just that, nand more power to him. But the intriguing part is how Obama (and the left) were just saying last week that the imam who trying to get the mosque built at ground zero has every right to do so. Now the Pres (and the left) are belittling this preacher and urging him not to go through with it. That is exactly what 70 percent of Americans wanted him to say to the imam. Everyone knows he has the right to build it, they wanted Obama to be a man and a leader by urging him to move it. Unfortunately, once again he failed by siding with the Muslims again. 

 One more thing on the subject. The Florida preacher was planning the event and has since suspended it, however, some 'looney toons' Muslims in Afghanistan have already burned him in effigy. That's right, at the mere suggestion of the burning, they already burned a dummy made to represent the preacher. Gee, I wonder why Muslims can't seem to earn non-Muslims respect? I certainly don't respect them.

Every other day, team Obama rants and raves about the great progress they have made with the economy. Yet, every other day the analyst's reports contradict them directly. With unemployment through the roof, housing in the toilet, and the stock market bouncing like a ping pong ball, team Obama now are trying to boast about their foreign policy achievements. Frankly, unless you call record numbers of troop deaths the last 3 months an achievement, I don't see any! But, they have to find a thread of success somewhere to draw attention away from their disastrous domestic policy before the elections. DON'T BE FOOLED!

Are you kidding me Hillary Clinton? Have you got rocks for brains? Asking Americans to donate to the flood relief in Pakistan. Are you trying to look politically correct, or do you really think we will help?

I say let the Pakistan government help its own people. What? Oh Yeah, that government is broken and corrupt. OK, then let the Taliban help out the Pakistanis. What? They never help anyone, they only kill them if they back talk their husband, or appear to be helping Americans. Well, then I'd say you are all screwed, and I wouldn't send you a single dime. Everyone over there hates Americans until there is a disaster, then they need our help. I say you can all kiss my American ass!

The sad part is that there are those sappy, touchy feely Americans who really will send money. They just don't get it. Later

What's the quickest and easiest way to deflect the fact your boyfriend is a thief and murderer? I know....declare he was the victim of racial harassment. The former girlfriend of Omar Thornton says he was dealing with ongoing racial discrimination and harassment, and that could have possibly led him to snap and kill 8, then himself. Really? It couldn't have been the video of himself stealing from his employer? And why does he even bring not one but two 9 mills to work in his lunchbox everyday? I can't help but suggest that the man had several problems, and the racial accusations are merely an attempt to deflect them in the media.

There is no record of complaint by him neither with the employer, nor with his union. Isn't that what unions are supposed to help you with? This all stinks to high heaven.

President Obama turns 49 years old today. I don't dislike him to the point I don't wish him a happy b-day. So "happy birthday Mr. President". I finally reached the age that I'm older than the sitting President (by 2 months), and I'm not real happy about it.

The Whitehouse announced that July is the bloodiest month for American soldiers thus far. It surpassed June which previously had the record. Two months in a row of record setting deaths and injuries to our guys is absolutely unacceptable! This clearly shows that a two year Senator from Harvard has NO CLUE how to run the most powerful nation on earth. And all the photo opps and rubbing elbows with movie stars equals DICK in terms of leadership and worldwide respect.

I am sooooo sick of this narcissistic President, I can just puke.

The fact that they are still blaming Bush for the economy is another glaring example of lack of leadership. You never heard Reagan complaining about Carter 18 months into his term, or even 6 months.

I hope Americans who thought it was time for a black President have learned a lesson. The color of the man isn't important, his experience level IS.

I spent one night at a hotel in Portland and was surprised that it was almost at capacity. The desk clerk said they are often busier during the week with business travelers than weekends.

 As I sat in the jacuzzi that night, I had a birdseye view of the elevators. I was soaking and relaxing, at the same time couldn't help but notice the predominate race of guests was of Middle Eastern decent. There were a few Asians and Caucasians, but mostly Pakistanis and Indians.

 I couldn't care less where the hotel's patrons hail from, but I started thinking, if these are business travelers (we were in a high tech area), are these folks American citizens or foreign business people. And if they are the latter, are they dominating the expertise in the high tech arena? What about our colleges? Are we turning out enough high level grads to compete in the world, or are we starting to lag behind other countries?

 I don't know the answers, but the next morning when I went downstairs for coffee, I was again perplexed by the overwhelming number of suits worn by Middle Easterns. I'm not making a statement about immigration, or anything else. I merely had questions in my own mind of our country's college output of technology experts, and how we compare globally.

Women on Subs?

 The Navy announced that women will now be allowed to serve on submarines. This should be an interesting experiment. I'm sure the sailors probably won't mind, I mean hey, now they'll have someone to do their laundry and pick up after them. Hahaha, just joking gals, don't get hostile with me. I just hope they acclimate not only to the underwater claustrophobic conditions, but to the rest of the crew, well known as being a tight fraternity. I never served in the military, but if I had, I would've preferred to serve next to a woman than I would a gay. Later.

 Lies and Deceit, the Democrat's Specialty

 Several news shows the last few days have shown assorted Dem's trying to rally support for Obama-care. Their common mantra is "those baaaaad insurance companies", and "pre-existing conditions".

 Funny how noone talks about 'mandatory insurance for everyone or pay a fine', that my friends is nothing more than a tax. And, I don't hear how the tax kicks in now, but the programs don't actually start for years. That is the smoke and mirrors of how it will effect the deficit.

 Lies and deceit to try and cover the backroom deals. the unorthodox means to pass the bill, and the fact that the majority of citizens don't want it.

 Dems have sunk to an all time low, and they don't even care.  It's not about what's best or what's right, it's all about 'making history'. I venture to say that real history will be made through sweeping change at the mid term elections, followed by making Obama a one term President. I don't think he even cares about that, does he?

 ObamaAlways Gets a Pass!

  I can't believe how the press gives Obama a pass at every turn. The latest jobless numbers are a fine example. The report stated we lost 36,000 jobs in February, tht'a a BIGGER number than January; yet the articles being printed state what a huge improvement it is. They compared the number to last Feb. when the number was something like 650,000 jobs lost. 

  Of course it's smaller, if we had been losing 650,000 a month all this time, the President and Congress would be the only ones left with a job.

 I'll state it again....WORST PRESIDENT IN MY LIFETIME! I've seen ten in my 48 years, and he is definitely the WORST.

Strange Weather

 I just got back from a road trip to Fairbanks. I left Thursday morn and arrived back home Friday night. Of course I drove my Silverado, not a bike, it's only February! I should have ran into below zero temperatures and lot's of snow but didn't. In fact, I actually had a reading of 52 degrees just outside of North Pole. There was very little snow fall and the highways were sometimes clear and dry (except where snow and ice had melted). It mad for a pleasant drive (over 800 miles roundtrip), but that is some pretty strange weather. I literally could have rode a motorcycle from  Gakona to Anchorage, I was very surprised.
 Now the question is whether this is early spring break up, or is it a tease? Are we in for more severe weather in the weeks to come.
 I have a feeling the severe weather is behind us. Although we may still get some big dumps of snow, the super cold temps are done.
 Not long ago there was measurable snow fall on the same day in 49 States (excluding Hawaii), which may have been a first. At the least it's extremely rare.
 Strange weather, but I hope that doesn't mean a rainy summer!
